. >>> we turn next overseas now and to afghanistan, whereree are getting our first look tonight at grizzly new images from inside that luxury hotel in kabul, swarmed by suicide bombers who went on that deadly attack. in an abc news exclusive, nick schifrin tonight takes us inside. >> reporter: abc news filmed the first images from inside the intercontinental. the attackers blew themselves up in bedrooms, in stairwrwls, in the hallway. the top floor, completely destroyed by fire. on the roof, a massive firefight. the attackers brought bags full of red bull and water so they could fight for hours. for the first time, a senior afghan police official admitted to abc news that his men wouldn't have retaken the hotel without the help of these nato special forces. later this month, afghan forces are supposed to take responsibility for security in parts of the country. but their response to this attack raises questions about whether they're ready. nick schifrin, abc news, kabul. >> nick, our thanks to you. >>> and it's those images that have authorities here at home on high alert this fourth. comb

to step in. you need to be here. i've been here. i've been doing afghanistan, bin laden, the greek crisis. >> the president says he wants to get working, wants us to get working. i cannot think of a better way than to pat him, on over to date. -- to have him come over today. we are waiting. >> senate minority leader mitch mcconnell. republicans were outraged by the president's remarked. but harry reid was listening. the majority leader canceled the senate's fourth of july holiday -- what a sacrifice. what do you make of the president's performance on wednesday, mark? >> the president recognizes two things. over the past two years, democrats have lost public debates on major initiatives, economic recovery and health care. they don't want to wind that risk of this time. -- run a risk to this time. they have to lay out the consequences, the recklessness and irresponsibility of even entertaining the possibility of letting this country default on its obligations. >> evan, what do you think? >> you cannot be partisan on this. he is at least showing some energy. but he has got to be an arm twist

about fraud in afghanistan, iraq, pakistan, and now the congress wants us, after giving away our jobs, not fair trade, free trade agreements -- now they want to go back and give them away with korea. i cannot believe the direction that this country has gone in. we keep talking about corporate tax rates. that is the key word.
